The Carp ( FAMILY = Cyprinidae ) are caught all over the world and loved by many due to their power and fight when hooked. Thailand is home to the largest carp. In fact the Siamese Giant carp is the Biggest carp species in the world recorded at 300kg (661lb) and could be the third biggest freshwater fish in the world, this is still to be proven as records about very large carp captures in the wild have never been scientifically recorded.

If you want to catch the biggest carp then Thailand is the only destination. The Siamese Giant carp is one of a few other very large carp species that are native to Thailand. Read on if you want to learn about the largest carp.

There are other species of Carp in Thailand some smaller such as the common carp which does not grow to the proportions of its european or canadian cousins but there are also other species that make those look like small fry.

The isok barb ( Probarbus jullieni )  can grow to well over 30kg (66lb) and have been recorded at 70kg (154lb) and the Big head carp ( Aristichthys nobilis )or chinese carp can grow to over 50Kg ( 110lb), both of these big carp are easily big enough to test even the most experienced of anglers. There is another big one called the Rohu (Labeo rohita) or Indian Carp which is also very sought after by many Thai and foreign anglers and is a very desirable food fish in many Asian countries. This Big Carp species has a max size ofm around 45Kg ( 99lb).
