Joe Burkett from Hawards Heath West Sussex has just broken Gillhams Fishing Resorts lake record Giant Siamese Carp with a stunning 98 lb fish. The huge carp took three Solar Tackle plastic boilie's in pink white and yellow, fished to a size 2/0 Gold Label penetrator hook in conjunction with a richworth feeder tied to the superb new line PRO-TUF from Gold Label tackle in 30 lb bs.
The latest catch of a reported 151kg Mekong catfish from Bungsamlan lake in Bangkok has been seen around the world in the angling press but with some controversy following it. The size of the fish seems to have come into question and claims made about the authenticity of the catch. As faras I can see this is indeed a big size catfish and there were many people present to witness the catch and the weighing procedure, that is not in doubt.
Hi to all our readers I expect you are all looking forward to the arrival of spring. By the time you read this news letter I will have returned back to paradise away from cold miserable England. First of all I would like to thank all of you who have took the time to come and see me at the shows and talks especially those of you who parted with your hard earned wonga to book holidays with us. It has been very hectic travelling up and down the country and Europe.
The middle of the hot season in Thailand and Songkran is around the corner once again. The festival usually lasts at least four days in most of the country and in Chiang mai maybe more which means that most of the city is closed and only the streets are filled with revelers partying in the heat with water guns and hosepipe's and of course lots of alcohol. If you have anytime in between that for fishing then the following photos are the sort of thing you can expect.
Luckily Robert Grey is a physically strong guy - if not there would be no way he could play this size fish in like he did. From the strike it was not easy to tell much, maybe a foul hooked fish? Maybe a relatively strong small Mekong?
Dear Mega Fishing Thailand, With my office in Perth Australia closing for the holiday period, on an impulse I went online to see if I could score myself a reasonable priced ticket to Thailand. To my surprise they were readily available and two days later I was on sitting on a Thai Airways plane bound for Bangkok. Having no real plans on what I was going to do over the next week I hired a 4WD at the airport and headed off up country to try a couple of fishing spots I had heard about. After a couple of hours of shooting the breeze and looking around I headed off to find a hotel for night.
Dear MEGA FISHING THAILAND,My friend Marty (Arostegui) told me once in an email that if I could break his 2 lb line class record (a 2.72 kg c.marulius catch) for the snakehead spp category he would not only congratulate me but would admit I am a very skilful angler. I did not forget his words. It took some time before I had the chance to take care of that record. But since 4.30 pm this afternoon, today, Nov. 27, 2007...it is done!
