Its been a while but even with all the going's on at MFT we did get a couple of hours to sneak over the road to the local (Klong) canal/river/swamp. Now in the heat of the dry season the water levels in the canal are low with only a few deep pools and shaded overhangs to explore with our trusty Green viper Killer frog buzz bait.
Just another day in paradise.With some spare time to take a stroll down a nearby river and a box of Thailand made fishing flies to test, hopefully we can tempt out a little fishy or two for the MFT camera. Luckily we dont live anywhere near a city and being on the coast aswell theres lots of natural wildlife so when casting around in a canal or tidal river if you keep your eyes open you can see an amazing amount of wildlife species that you might miss if you didnt have the mind to look around.
Return client Keith Purton an UK ex-pat who teaches I.T. in Hong Kong is an experienced Thailand fisherman and was with us at Gillhams fishing resort in Krabi and managed to Bag a very well deserved 150Kg+ Arapaima after a spectacular morning of fishing. keith booked up 7 nights fishing this season and was raring to get into the Mega fishing action to be had at this still only 75% complete resort in the Krabi province of Southern Thailand.

Easily the finest craftsmanship in lure making in the world is in a small community of Thai "lure artists" who produce hand shaped, finished and painted lures from fibre, hardwoods and resins that are like designer label mantlepiece items but at the same time being fully useable product to be chomped on by predaceous fish.

A recent trip out to a medium sized reservoir in southern Thailand made for a great day and the opportunity of a test session with a brand new lure called the Mango Jack Flash bait.
The recent catch of the worlds biggest carp in Thailand has prompted a frenzy of press and internet forum activity around the worlds angling fraternity. The story even made it into the Uks daily tabloid rag the Sun's website where they compared the weight of the said carp to John Prescott M.P the infamous barnsley brawler.I have been reading a right load of carp in more than one forum, where images of the biggest carp ever to be caught on rod and line were posted, that the fish was obviously a fake.
THE NIGHT THEY LANDED THE BIGGEST FRESHWATER FISH EVER CAUGHT ON ROD AND LINE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA. Twenty-three years ago, thirty five (35) Arapaima gigas or Pirarucu, a fish species originally from the Amazon basin, were stocked at Bung Sam Lan Lake, Thailand. A few of them were hooked during the past two decades but rarely was a fish successfully landed by anglers.
