Freshwater Fishing - FRESHWATER FISHING IN THAILAND CATCH REPORTS
Written by Jean-Francois Helias
Snakehead fishing in Thailand. The best catches from Jungle fishing safaris in ThailandThis  catch report came recently from Jean-francois Helias of Fishing Adventures Thailand after another Jungle fishing trip in search of one of our Favourites the Giant Snakehead (bla Shado) or Toman as its also called in asia. Here are some photos of the most recent catches of Giant Snakehead and Jungle Perch (hampala Barb) taken during the last jungle expedition, at a "secret" destination.

Though the water level was extremely high, and the fish not in their most aggressive mood towards lures - at this period of the year almost no one fishes for snakeheads as they do not bite so much - we did the very best we could out of that trip.

We had 62 catches in 6 days fishing between 2 anglers. A USA client named John Clifford, from Michigan USA, had 17 "snakes" (his biggest 4.92 kg) to the boat & 8 jungle perch.

The Colouring on this Giant Snakehead is absolutley amazing, it looks irridescent with its blue shimmer, What a perfect specimen.

I had myself 16 "snakes" & 21 jungle perch. So no complaints at all, considering the number of strikes (around 100) we had, all the misses, and fish the getting unhooked.

Again another perfect Giant Snakehead, this one is lighter grey in colour with brilliant contrasting markings.

My biggest catch of that of that latest trip was a lovely 5.76 kg. The way I caught it was again a true piece of lure fishing anthology. A long distance cast with the lure landing right there where I wanted it to be, in a heavily snagged area, landing right under a big fallen log where I felt a Giant Snakehead had to be in ambush. The fish was there alright and grabbed my lure in a split second. It was a very stocky "maeng poo" (a solitary male of dark coloration), very muscular, ready to put up a good fight! The following part was kind of sparring for one round with Mike Tyson....it tried to snag my line all over the place. But I don't let them do so...

Here Jean-Francois displays his biggest and best catch of the trip. This lone male would be the top predator in his own environment. What an amazing specimen.

Talk is cheap. Walking the walk is another story....
