The Cobra snakehead or Great snakehead is an elusive fish that inhabits waters from Thailand and Cambodia through Burma all the way to India and China. Its known as Cobra snakehead because of its resemblance to the Cobra. Its name in Thai Plah Chon gnu hauw translated literally means Cobra snakehead. This fish has become famous because it has been found inhabiting canals in Florida where it is considered vermin because it is not a native species.

Diet: Fish, Frogs, Birds, Crustaceans, Worms.
Habitat: Freshwater.
Description: The Cobra Snakehead has dark eyes, a dipped snakelike head with jutting bottom jaw and is brown/gold-tinted to pale gray to dark brown with large black blotches. It has a distinctive marking which is the black spot rimmed with orange near the base of the tail fin, known as an eyespot or ocellus.
The Maximum recorded total length is 183 cm , and maximum recorded weight is 30.0 kg 
The Channa marulius can be found lurking in sluggish or standing water in canals, lakes, and swamps.Usually inhabiting waters with submerged aquatic vegetation.
During the wet season the Cobra Snakehead will enter flooded lands or forests looking for food items and new pools, ponds or rivers.
The Cobra Snakehead is carnivorous and feeds on fish, frogs, snakes, insects, earthworms and tadpoles. It will also take water birds, snakes, and rodents.
Fishing technique for the Cobra Snakehead or Bulls eye snakehead as it is known in the USA as it was thought the name COBRA may frighten people is basically using top water lures. The Cobra snakehead will inhabit very weedy or snagged areas around sunken trees or roots that are almost impossible to cast into. The use of lures with weedless ability are recommended.
These great predators are amazing fighting fish, If you are lucky and skilled enough to lure one out from its lair and hook up then you will be in for a thrill that only a selected few anglers both Thai and foreign have experienced.
