Here is another pending world record of a 17.70KG Striped catfish / Sutchi Catfish ( Pla Sawai )that was caught in the freshwater lake in Bangkok known as Bungsam lan.
The captor of this beautiful fish was Mr William Earl Donnell Jr (73 years young) from Davie, Florida. He was on a full day fishing trip with Jean Francois Helias and Fishing Adventures Thailand. There is not much of a report about the capture of this pending world record. We would guess that because the Striped catfish is not usually the main target at Bungsam lan there would not have been, much of a fuss made when this one was landed.

But the Pro guides who work with Fishing Adventures Thailand however were sure as soon as the fish got netted that it could be an eventual new IGFA record for that species. You got to remember that these guys have been fishing Bungsam lan lake on a regular basis since its opening over 20 years ago, they know just about everything that needs to be known about the place and probably a lot more than that as well.
So this particular Striped catfish was not released straight away but weighed, measured and photographed according to the strict IGFA rules.
To make a proper application for this world record catfish, all the body measurments must be taken and recorded, it then must be photographed and weighed before paperwork can be filled and sent away to the IGFA headquaters in Florida
After the catfish was was officially weighed and measured, Jean-Francois Helias, the IGFA Representative for Thailand informed Mr Donnell Jr that his catch superseded the current IGFA world record for the striped catfish and that he would prepare and send the record application to the IGFA headquarters in Florida.
This latest catch is the heaviest striped catfish ever to be caught in the all tackle category and within the IGFA rules.

The former record was for a 17.00 kg fish caught in April 2005 by another Fishing Adventures Thailand's client, Dr. Lenny Kouba, from Chicago, USA.
