Return client Keith Purton an UK ex-pat who teaches I.T. in Hong Kong is an experienced Thailand fisherman and was with us at Gillhams fishing resort in Krabi and managed to Bag a very well deserved 150Kg+ Arapaima after a spectacular morning of fishing. keith booked up 7 nights fishing this season and was raring to get into the Mega fishing action to be had at this still only 75% complete resort in the Krabi province of Southern Thailand.
Keith Has been fishing in Thailand many times before including Snakehead fishing with Fishing adventures Thailand, Arapaima fishing at Dream lake fishing in Chiang Mai and of course fishing at Bungsamlan in Bangkok for the world famous Giant carp and Giant catfish.
The day started in Spectacular fashion as you can see from Keiths own photos below of the amazing surroundings of this peacefull and friendly fishing lake in Krabi.
It was not long at all before Keith was into his first titanic fish and was battling steady in the fresh mornnig sunlight.
What an amazing way to start such a day of fishing but with a pristine Giant Pirarucu estimated to be around 100KG safely caught and released unharmed and looking good.
No time to even hesitate and Keith was into another and it was much bigger than the first but Just as my camera was in position and focused for the mighty beast to breach the surface there was an horrific and all too recognisable noise of the hook and rig popping out of the water and shooting back to the trees behind.
Everybody looked around stunned at how the very liberaly massed "ARI-PALMA" could have possibly been unhooked but as Stuart Gillham Presented Keith with all that was left on the hook; A giant Arapaima scale about 8CM across, hard as bone and beautifully coloured it was clear that it was a foul hooking.
The baits were set again with hope that there was still a chance of a big one (As if 100Kg is not big enough) before the morning was out and then came the by-now familiar screaming from the Shimano big pit bait-runners and Fox bite alarm.
This beast's first run after the hookup and the line got snagged somewhere in the middle of the lake around a feature so the brave guide Sean Gillham swam out and easily freed the line and the fight continued.
Eventually the fish was brought to "The cage" and safely unhooked. You can see the sheer width across the back of this monster tanker, it is absolutley huge. The photos dont really do this specimen credit and the way that Stuart and Sean Gillham handled this fish showed a dedication to sport angling and fish care.
