The latest catch of a reported 151kg Mekong catfish from Bungsamlan lake in Bangkok has been seen around the world in the angling press but with some controversy following it. The size of the fish seems to have come into question and claims made about the authenticity of the catch. As far as I can see this is indeed a big size catfish and there were many people present to witness the catch and the weighing procedure, that is not in doubt.
What is quite baffling is how the hell two small boys and a big guy lift 151kg of slimy and slippery blubber into the air without ripping an arse muscle? Tim the captor of this monster catfish is obviously a big strong guy but the two boys on flanking him look like they couldn't even lift a 10kg fish between them. Have they been at the M150 and Kratom? I know when Thai boxers are hurt they keep on smiling but these two guys are something else, they are lifting 151kg out of the water with the ease of a Pattaya pickup.
Being a real experienced big fish man and not just a fly by night, Tim has bagged up some massive fish in the last couple of years with the help of Fishing adventures Thailand guides, he even tried his own luck with Monster predator lake's Arapaima and blew the lake records apart in only one day, check the report, and photo's (They go a bit overboard with the lifting teams at that lake).
Above a photo of Tim with his current IGFA world record catch from Bungsamlan lake in Bangkok, some guides also like to do chin balancing acts while displaying clients catches. For the full story of this amazing catch click here.
Unfortunately there seems to be negativity from some upstarts in the Thai fishing scene at present, mostly regarding this catch. This is not good as it makes the ridiculously large fish that can be found in Thailand look even more ridiculously large and unbelievable and ultimately the Thai guides who are the ones who do the real work and who rely on foreign customers bookings could end up being tested for steroids and could be banned from guiding for life if they continue to use strength enhancing substances to lift these heavyweight fish. Sport fishing is not or should not be taken too seriously. Anglers who are right minded should always accomplish their angling goals in a positive fashion using their own skill and angling knowledge and in a way that promotes 'sportsmanship'. When the whole point of your angling becomes about breaking records or discrediting others records then its time for a change, what about golf, Tiger? Tight lines! |
