Mae Ngat Dam, is a wonderfull fishing destination This reservoir, is located 85 km northwest of Chiang Mai and is another breathtaking sight. A flooded valley surrounded by breathtaking scenery with views that are good enough alone to make the journey. But thats not what you will be going for, the scenery is a big bonus but the fishing is the most important thing and that is Great.
The lake holds Tilapia (max.2kg); Rohu (max. 6kg), Small Scale Mud Carp (max. 6kg), a small number of Snakehead (1-2kg).
The main attractive species are the Hampala Barb also called Jungle Perch (max. 5kg), the average size is 0.5-1kg and a 3kg fish is a very good catch .
These Cyprinids feed on small fish, and provide good action on light tackle and with topwater lures.
The best time of year for Jungle Perch is June to October.
If you plan to fish this venue you will need to hire a guide to get you there kit you out with the right tackle and baits.
