 Koh Tao is a true paradise for Big game Anglers on a budget and could be described as having the cheapest marlin fishing in the world.The island of Koh Tao is situated in the Gulf of Thailand and only a couple hours boat and taxi ride from Koh samuis airport which makes it accessible for anglers with a limited time frame.
Standard tackle for fishing would be a stiff boat rod and overhead reel filled with 40lb mono line. The terminal tackle consists of a 40lb leader just over a meter long, and as light a weight as possible running free above the swivel. Small sharp hooks like Gamakatsu no14 are perfect.
All tackle and baits are included in the pricing.
The best bait are live sardines jigged up with a small sabiki rig but failing that either squid or plaa thu(a small mackerel with very oily flesh) work OK.
The main targets on these wreck fishing trips are Marlin and other billfish species, African pompano (Alectis ciliaris) in the daytime , bigeye trevally (Caranx sexfasciatus) , and gold snapper (Lutjanus johnii) at nighttime. Occasional catches of cobia, barracuda, shark, mackerel and grouper keep things interesting.
Pricing for this private charter is 6000 Thai baht per day and includes all Tackle and Baits.
