Par Lai Lake near Chalong is set amongst a backdrop of exotic tropical gardens, you can target a large variety of tough fighting species that include Pacu, Striped Catfish, Giant Gourami, Giant Snakehead, Great Snakehead, Tilapia and Indo-Pacific Tarpon.
Striped Catfish grow to record-beating sizes here, with specimens well in excess of the current IGFA world record regularly being caught. Pacu (a Piranha type fish) are very common in this lake and are tremendous fighters that will test any anglers’ skill to land them. Fish up to 15 kilos are present, and the average size is around 5-6 kilos.  Great scenery at this lake set in nice garden surroundings and a wide array of fighting fish species.
The equipment used are Shimano 6 ½ ft one piece rods, matched with Shimano Sienna, or Shimano Bait-runner reels.Main line is 15lb mono, with a 30lb braid leader attached to a size 7 barbless hook. The most productive methods are free-lined baits for the more wary species (Giant Gourami and Striped Catfish) and float fished baits for other species.  Big Pacu and catfish are the main targets at Par Lai fishing lake in Phuket
Spinning using small spinners or surface lures is also a good method for Pacu, Snakehead.  Pacu on the FLY , Pacu and Snakehead can also be targeted with fly fishing techniques.The most common equipment is a sinking line, with a 30 lb tippet leader, and a 7 to 9 weight rod.
