Prefers to live in freshwater but can also be found in brackish water. Look for particularly slow-moving areas of large rivers or swamps and canals. Giant gourami grows much larger than most other gourami's hence its name. Due to its large size it is very important in aquaculture in it's native range. Osphronemus goramy are mainly herbivores and have been used as control fish in aquaculture to consume vegetation and algae. Its possible to tempt Giant gourami on a range of fishing baits corn, nuts, rice baits aswell as small dry flies.
