Wild fishing in Thailand - Mae Ngat Dam is located 85 km northwest of Chiang Mai, and is part of the spectacular Sri Lanna National park. We offer half day, full day and multiple daytrips, fishing from boats with accommodation on floating Houseboats (Rafts). Full guiding service tackle and transport included.
TARGET SPECIES: We fish here for the Giant Snakehead and Hampala Barb also called Jungle Perch. These Cyprinids are feeding almost on small fish, an provide good action on light tackle and fishing with topwater lures. Snakehead fishing will provide a challenge to anglers who enjoy fishing with lures. The sudden explosiveness of the strike will excite even the most experienced fishermen. The lake holds Tilapia max.2kg (4.4lb) Rohu max 6kg (13lb), Mud Carp max 6kg (13lb), Giant snakehead to 9kg (19.8lb) but the main attractive species is the Hampala Barb also called Jungle Perch max. 5kg (11lb), the average size is 1kg (2.2lb) and a 3kg (6.6lb) fish is already a very good catch.
FISHING METHODS: Lure fishing with topwater lures also using diving lures like Rapala. Precise casting with surface lures, like Pencils, Poppers and Buzzbaits, is essential as you will always fish in areas with flooded trees and other snags.

- HALF DAY: 5,000 Thai Baht per angler.
- FULL DAY: 8,000 Thai Baht per angler per day.
Over night option will be charged 1500 baht extra per person for accommodation + meals.( Basic room at the float house in the lake )

- HALF DAY & FULL DAY: Free Pick up drop off and transfer from Chiang Mai international airport, Hotel or guest house in Chiang Mai, all fishing tackle, lures, baits, lunchbox meal, water, ice, day boat rental and professional fishing guide.

NOTE: It is recommended that you bring, during the raining season (June-October), wet weather clothing along with you.
ITINERARY FULL DAY
- 05.00 am. pick-up from your hotel or guest house in Chiang Mai and transfer to the Dam about 1 hour
- Lure fishing from a local longtail boat until 11.00 am
- Lunch and a rest at a floating Restaurant in the middle of the lake
- 14.30 until 18:00 lure fishing
- Return to your hotel approx 19:30

At this venue we guarantee you will catch a nice fish. The average size of catfish is 5 -20kg (11lb - 45lb) and the chance for bigger ones is fairly good. The Giant Mekong catfish is well known in Thailand as a brute and a tackle destroyer.
